Valeries adventures in Spain

She was invited to give her illustrated talk on her life and career when the next day fire raged through the area where she was staying and she was evacuated, the area was devastated but luckily Valerie escaped unscathed - See article below.

News travels fast!

Hammer Horror star Valerie Leon faced real-life terror when fire raged through a village in Southern Spain.
Valerie is on a lecture tour in Almeria, where it hasn't rained for four months. The blaze started in the hills near the resort of Mojacar.
Residents were ordered to evacuate, but Valerie realised a neighbour's dog - a 200lb arthritic St Bernard called Chanda was trapped.
"I managed to get Chanda out and pushed and shoved until she was in the back of my little car before escaping at the 11th hour" says Valerie.
Thankfully the fire has subsided but the area is devasted.

Valerie at The Curtain Call Awards, Southampton 2010.

The Curtain Call Awards are the brain child of The Editor of The Southampton Daily Echo Ian Murray. Throughout the year a team of Reviewers go out and review all amateur  theatre productions which appear in The Echo. At the end of the year they get together and decide who to nominate in different categories ( 37 ) in total. It culminates in A Black Tie event and is known as The Amateur Oscars and I was privileged to be asked to present the awards. What an unusual and unique way to encourage theatre and to also sell extra newspaper copies!

Valerie has been to Cape Town in South Africa, where she was filming a commercial for Right Guard which will be shown in Germany, Russia, The Ukraine and possibly the UK.

I have made a few guest appearances at film conventions in the UK and abroad and have finally got an illustrated talk about my career off the ground. It was premiered in Spain in Almeria (where so many of the Spaghetti Westerns were made!) . British venues so far include Gravetye Manor in West Sussex,The Maltings Arts Theatre in St Albans, Hertfordshire and The Jermyn Street Theatre , London. I am presently in negotiations with cruiseships and other festivals. Talking about my career has given me as much pleasure as it appears to have given members of the audience. I am touched to see fans arriving from all over the country to support me and really enjoyed meeting them after the shows. This new departure in my career also gives me a great opportunity to visit new places, so if any of you readers have an idea for an interesting venue I may consider it!

last of the summer wine

When Valerie appeared in an episode of "Last Of The Summer Wine" which was shown on BBC Television she was padded out for her role and also wore glasses, no make up and had her hair tied back. Quite a change from the glamour roles she is known for!!  It was great fun and she would like to do more parts that do not rely on her known image.

Valerie has also made a brief appearance in a pop video, for Flying Sparks Records. The title of the song is "what If I'm Right" and was performed by a new young singer called Sandi Thom.

The film "A Neutral Corner " which Valerie appeared in with Jody Latham from Shameless was selected to screen in the best of The Shorts section of The Leeds International Film Festival. It was also shown at the Santa Barbara Film Festival, and various other film festivals in the UK and around the world.
