What is the difference between a Zoom Meeting and a Zoom Webinar?
Zoom Meetings which have become popular during COVID are designed to be a collaborative event with all participants being able to screen share, turn on their video and audio, and see who else is in attendance. The video quality is usually low.
Zoom Webinars are like a virtual auditorium. Webinar attendees attend privately and do not interact with one another or share their video image. The picture and audio quality is also much higher, essential for Valerie’s presentation.
Do I need to sign up for a Zoom account or download special software ?
No you do not need to sign up for an account with Zoom – you just need to register for the webinar.
Once you do this you will get an email with details about the event.
You can watch the show in your computer’s browser without installing the Zoom software (there is a link “Join from your browser” that will appear if you refuse to install the Zoom software) but installing the software is easy and when you access the show from the link in the email “Click here to Join” everything is done automatically and you don’t have to type anything in manually.
If you are new to Zoom you can click the Join link at any time before the event which means you can check it is all working long before the event date. You can do it as many times as you like and it will say something like “the event has not yet started”.
If you want to watch on a mobile phone or tablet / iPad then you will have to install the Zoom app from the App Store or Google Play. Again clicking on the link in the registration email from your device where it says “Click here to Join” and it will do everything for you if you follow the instructions.

This will take you through to a test “meeting” where it will setup your ability to listen to audio, send video and speak into a microphone. For the purposes of Valerie’s show you just need to make sure you can hear sound.
